Tell us a little bit about you.
I grew up in Auckland up until the age of nine. Myself and my whanau moved to a farm in a small village outside of Paeroa. I am the oldest of four siblings, 2 brothers and a sister which meant that I grew up in a very loud and boisterous household, I love my family, and I love the laughter and noise of the house. My family now reside in Waihi, which means I am always at the beach when I am there.
I worked my first 5 years as a Therapist in Thames Coromandel. Due to growing up in the area and working there, I became a part of the community, going to community events, fundraisers etc. Going to the supermarket was a place I couldn’t go without seeing at least 5 people I knew at a time, and I loved it!
I love the summer time, my friends say I’m a water baby as I’m always swimming. I love to watch sunrises. I love to read and write, and play with makeup, and spend time with my Whanau and friends.
What inspired you to the skin industry?
When entering Beauty School, I wanted to focus on Makeup Artistry. While Makeup is still a big passion of mine, I became enthralled by how skin should be properly cared for. I didn’t even know back then that SPF should be worn daily on the face!
With my knowledge as a paramedical therapist, I quickly discovered how exciting it is when the canvas of the skin is vibrant and working optimally. Now, I love to educate people of how to properly care for their skin and gut health. When I was a teenager I had absolutely no idea how to look after my skin, so would use harsh coffee scrubs on my face, and bacteria ridden facial brushes to cleanse my skin every day which lead to loads of congestion and breakouts, which lead me to the confidence on educating clients with how to properly care for themselves.
What do you love most about the industry?
I love to learn, when graduating from highschool I was worried I wouldn’t be able to learn and stimulate my brain the way I was used to for so long, however, there is so much to learn everyday!
My drive for the industry has also always come down to the happiness I feel when making clients feel better about themselves, in the skin they’re in. I was always told, we don’t know what kind of day someone may be having and their treatment may be the only highlight of their day.
On top of this, I have always loved being pampered. I love being the first to try/receive new things evolving in the industry. Being a Skin Therapist sometimes feels like being a child again playing with lotions and potions.
What are your favourite skin concerns to treat and why?
Over the years I have treated many concerns from healing the after-effects of shingles, rosacea, pigmentation etc. I get the most satisfaction from treating difficult skin concerns like rosacea, acne and aging. These are very complex and when treated well, provide some of the greatest results, and make people feel so much more confident in themselves.
Favourite skin treatment
My favourite would definelty have to be the BBL Moxi, as the results are phenomenal and push the boundaries of traditional Skin Therapy. My second would be a Deluxe HydraFacial, I LOVE receiving pampering and relaxing treatments, just as much as I like to do them for people.
I love getting BBL Forever Young paired with ClearSilk on my skin, it makes my skin glow more than I ever knew it could!
What is your top skin advice?
Wear SPF, it’s about as simple as that. I recently learnt that New Zealand and Australian people age 20 years faster than European countries, as our Ozone layer is so damaged, resulting in majorly sun damaged, weathered skin. SPF is a non-negotiable in my eyes.
